Homemade Solutions To Clean Rust Off Stainless Steel Appliances

Mar 25, 2020

Besides providing your kitchen a smooth, contemporary look, one of the many advantages of having stainless steel sink, utensils and appliances are their power to stay ‘stainless.’ There’s just no need to panic if your expensive kitchen appliances have started to show signs of rust. There are many cleaning solutions that can help you to expel the rust and keep your kitchen looking pleasant.

First of all, we have one good and one bad news for you. The bad news is that if your stainless steel appliances and utensils have rust spots, it’s because of damage of the chromium oxide layer. This layer is the thing that shields stainless steel from rusting and staining. The good news is that the rust is just at surface level and can be cleaned up. In addition, this layer can be repaired with a little care!

So how did this extraordinary, defensive layer get harmed in any case? The typical culprits are any strong cleaners that have chlorides such as iodine, bromine chlorine, and fluorine, and cleaners that consist of ammonia and alcohol.

For regular cleaning, your stainless steel sink, utensils, and appliances don’t need any strong chemical cleaning solutions. All you need is a solution of mild soap and warm water to do the cleaning while removing usual messes like dirt, dust and fingerprints.

The following are a couple cleaning tips and options that are generally environment-friendly and can be made easily with ingredients that you already have in your home. Keep in mind, in order to avoid any damage, scratch or making additional rust on your utensils and sink, don’t utilize any steel brush or steel scrub!

Stainless Steel Rust Removal Homemade Solutions

Baking Soda And Water Solution

Mix equivalent amounts of baking pop and water, and utilize a delicate scrub or soft wipe to rub the rust off. After the rust is wiped off completely, wash with clean water and dry with another soft cloth.

Vinegar Solution

Pour a decent amount of vinegar onto a cloth or soft scrub, and rub it on the stainless surface where rust has appeared. Leave vinegar for 5 to 10 minutes on the surface. Then clean it with cold water.

Baking Soda and Lemon Juice Solution

Mix equivalent amounts of lemon juice and baking soda to make a mixture, then clean the surface by applying the mixture on it. If the rust stain is stubborn or tough to remove, then leave the mixture on the surface for 10 to 20 minutes. Rinse the surface with cold water and wipe it with a soft sponge.

To avoid any stain, scratches, or patterns make sure you don’t use metal scrubs or any harsh cleaning chemicals.
