During the winter season, we always remember to keep ourselves and our homes protected from the cold but many times we forget our trusty metal friend also known as our vehicle that helps us get from one location to the next.

Here are a few great hacks to help speed things along on those extra cold and snowy days.

Foggy Windshields:

A great and easy way to clear a foggy windshield or window without leaving a smudgy mess is by using a chalkboard eraser.

An alternative to help fog proof it is to rub some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield or windows and then wipe it off.

The ingredients inside contain the same chemicals as commercial defoggers do and when you wipe off the shaving cream it leaves a layer on the window that helps to keep the fog off.

Frozen Windshield Wipers:

After using your car for the last time for the day, cover the wipers with an extra pair of socks to keep them warm and stop icing in the morning.

If your wipers are already frozen to your vehicle, soak a cloth with full-strength rubbing alcohol and wipe the blades.

The rubbing alcohol keeps the blades from sticking so they will function properly.

Frozen Car Door Locks:

The fastest way to get that key into the frozen car door lock is to heat up the key with a match or lighter then gently push the heated key into the lock to melt the ice.

Another great method is to rub a little squirt of hand sanitizer on your key before gently inserting it into the keyhole, it takes a little bit longer but the alcohol melts the ice away.

A great way to try and prevent the locks from freezing altogether is by spraying some WD-40 into the keyhole before winter starts, WD-40 keeps ice from forming within.

Frozen Car Doors:

When ice on your roof melts during the day, some of it runs in between the cracks in your door and end up freezing in there.

By applying some cooking spray in the cracks the water will just run right off instead of resting within the cracks.

By following these easy steps you can help avoid a whole lot of disaster when trying to defrost your vehicle.
